Dear Editor,
Are we as Guyanese responsible for the state of our country because we allowed it? Maybe we are. They say each man is responsible and casts his own destiny. Maybe it’s not the PNC or the PPP practising racial politics that are culpable directly.
So my fellow Guyanese take stock of yourselves and decide that you want a better future for your children. You have the power to change things in Guyana, but until you decide to change it, it will remain the same. Demand decency, foreign investors, well-paying jobs and the end to racial politics. The Black, Indian, Mixed and Amerindian people of Guyana are all Guyanese, they are a people of great spirit, and they all deserve a decent living in Guyana.
Do you see the politicians’ children catching buses, queueing at the hospital or their power being cut by GPL?
Your educated people will always continue to leave for a better living elsewhere. Smart-looking highways and stoplights are not development. As a matter of fact the stoplights are losing thousands of dollars in man-hours on the Rupert Craig highway. Being able to pay bills, feed your family, buy a home, walk on the streets without fear of being killed, a land where your daughters can live where they are respected – this is development.
Maybe one day we will see the light at the end of the tunnel and change for the better.
Yours faithfully,
K Persaud
