Fathers in New Amsterdam (NA) are invited to participate in a special “Father’s Day White T-shirt Walk on Sunday to clear their minds from work and to show love and commitment to their children.”
Coordinator Eli Hazel said the walk was organised by the Unity of the Nation group based in NA. He said it is being hosted in recognition that “the success of a family comes through the dedication of a father.”
Hazel said participants are required to wear white t-shirts and assemble at Lot 39 Stanleytown. From there, he said, they would proceed along Republic Road into Vryheid Street then along Angoy’s Avenue. The route also includes walking along Tucber Park into Winkle Road then to Princess Elizabeth Road, along Main Street and return to the starting point where a special prayer would be recited for fathers. The walk starts at 5am.
As a physical instructor, Hazel said he knows that walking and physical exercise are important and that many persons, particularly fathers, rarely find the time to do so. He said other than the exercise benefit; the walk is an opportunity to shower fathers with attention.
