It is over one year since the US embassy decided not to accept documents from Guyanese who want to apply for non-immigrant visas (visitor).
Their decision not to accept documents came about for several reasons. Persons who desire a visitor’s visa can only be granted one if the applicant convinces the interviewing officer that he/she will return.
What can an interview really determine? It is the interviewing officer’s word against that of the applicant. A few questions cannot determine if an applicant is going to return to Guyana or not. The US embassy should devise a better system to enable Guyanese to prove that if they are given a US non-immigrant visa they will return.
A lot of Guyanese have applied and have been refused for no valid reason. It is not wise for Guyanese to pay their money for an interview and then get turned down.
