Dear Editor,
Freddie Kissoon in typical fashion conveniently avoids the apposite questions at hand, as evident in his KN column (3.6.08), ‘Soon is forever.’
Freddie did not address Ravi Dev’s concern that not “a single premise of his arguments about voters’ opinions was based on evidence produced…” Freddie’s clever response was to nonchalantly dismiss this in the following terms: “strangely, this is the very crime that Dev is guilty of”! No other word, no comments on Freddie’s lack of evidence.
Freddie is often too simplistic in his conclusions. In the said column, he stated, “the East Indians did not vote for any other party other than the PPP” (in the 2006 elections). Freddie is wrong again. I know of many East Indians who voted for the AFC; (I believe that Freddie is one of them). I supported the AFC party, and like Freddie, also happen to think that the AFC is the answer to many of Guyana’s social, economic and political problems.
I pointed out in an early letter (about a year ago) that I personally knew of many Indians who were fed up with the PPP for one reason or the other. They did not want to vote PNC because of history, but knew of no other alternative. (They knew of Raphael Trotman and Khemraj Ramjattan because of their high profile, but had no idea of their association with the AFC). This ignorance, I pointed out, was because the AFC came charging out of the starting box too late, and when they did strut their stuff, it was more or less geared to the city folk; their message could not connect to the typical rank and file Indian who lived in the countryside.
This political expert needs to substantiate more of his statements
Yours faithfully,
Devanand Bhagwan
