The Guyana Rugby Football Union has called to practice 31 U19 players in preparation for Guyana’s participation in the North America and West Indies Rugby Association Qualifying Tournament for the iRB Junior World Rugby Trophy which will take place in Barbados from July 5 -12.
Guyana narrowly missed qualifying last year for the Junior World Trophy Tournament by losing to Jamaica by a kickoff when the twp teams were drawn at the final whistle.
Jamaica went on to represent the NAWIRA region at the tournament which has just been concluded.
Guyana is seeded #2 in the NAWIRA region behind Jamaica and has been grouped in Pool B with Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago in the first round of the tournament.
Jamaica has been grouped in Pool A with Barbados and Mexico.
The teams will go forward on a points basis to play in the semi-finals and final.
The winning team will qualify for the finals of the 2009 iRB Junior World Trophy tournament.
The team is currently training on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 16:30hrs and Saturdays from 16:00hrs.
