The GNBS on Monday last recertified Sigma Labs to operate as it has proven capable of developing, maintaining and operating in compliance with the Guyana Standards-General Requirements for the Operation of a Laboratory.
In a press release the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) said the Lot 322, New Market Street lab complies with the laboratory standard GYS 170:2003 under the Laboratory Certification Programme.
It said too the lab tests in the areas of Biochemistry, Haematology, Histology, Parasitology, Serology and Microbiology and competently facilitates the delivery of accurate, reliable and consistent results.
The GNBS said to maintain recognition it re-evaluates all certified laboratories periodically to ensure continual compliance with the standard. Laboratories may also be required to participate in relevant proficiency testing programmes between reassessments as a further demonstration of performance.
Sigma Labs is one of four that were certified, the GNBS said. The others are Dr Balwant Singh’s Hospital Laboratory, the Georgetown Public Hospital Medical Laboratory and Eureka Medical Laboratory.
