Dear Editor,
I’m writing to highlight an issue that is affecting persons plying the Adventure/Parika service aboard the M V Baramani. This vessel is not as big and convenient as the M V Malali. Most of this vessel is open air with a minimal area shaded. For the past two weeks the crew aboard the vessel has stopped persons from slinging hammocks in the shaded area on the bottom flat.
The crew has given reasons why they have discontinued this practice but I think it’s inhumane, taking into consideration when persons are engaged in business. Example when a canter is travelling the driver would sleep in the vehicle while the porter would sling his hammock. Please take into consideration that porters have to offload and reload their vehicle, which could be sometimes strenuous because they have to be on time to catch the vessel in the afternoon, all of this with little or no night rest.
I really think the crew is unfair because of the stance they have taken. I hope that the relevant authorities of the Transport and Har-bours Department would ensure a favourable solution to this for the travelling public, while ensuring that passengers have utmost respect for the vessel and its property. In closing I would like to challenge some of the crew to be more professional and humane in discharging their duties.
Yours faithfully,
David Persaud
