A number of businesses presented cheques to the Theatre Guild on Friday to assist with the completion of the revamping of the playhouse.

A release from the Guild said that $1M was presented by Sonita Jagan on behalf of Atlantic Tele Network, the parent company of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph. Western Union also made a presentation of $1M and Chris Fernandes handed over a cheque for $500,000 on behalf of John Fernandes Limited. Cheques also came from Nigel’s Supermarket, Gizmos and Gadgets and the Institute of Private Enterprise Development.  In addition, Starr Computers was to present a computer and Food for the Poor some office equipment.

The Guild said that “finally after a year long fundraising drive, the spanking new theatre expected to be one of the best in the region is slated to open” on June 28 at 7 pm with a performance for contributors to the project.
