The Laparkan Una Clarke Caribbean-American Scholar-ship committee re-cently gave six persons scholarships based on their “commitment to academic excellence and achievement, community service and volunteerism.”
According to a press release from Laparkan Holdings Limited Eboni Blenman, Kalila Nichols, Dena Cox, Patrice Bailey, Yesenia Francisco and Yamilca Rosa were given awards. As part of the evening’s celebrations Laparkan Senior Vice President (VP) North East Region Gordon Berment also announced the appointment of Una S Clarke, VP of External Affairs and Cira Angeles VP of Business Development and Community Relations – Latin Region.
The release said dignitaries and elected officials including Councilman Mathieu Eugene; Consul General of Jamaica, Genevieve Brown Metzger and Consul General of Grenada, Allen McGuire also attended the ceremony. Entertainment and refreshments for the evening were provided by Ricardo Greenaway, Wayne Kirton, Casym Steel Orchestra and Winston Forde Taste the Island Food Services and Catering.
The company said it has administered the scholarship since 2003 and it has successfully become a vehicle for social and economic mobility by supporting education within the Caribbean community.
The programme aims at providing financial support to the Caribbean/Caribbean-American students who exhibit outstanding academic performance and are actively involved in or have participated in projects related to the enhancement of the Caribbean Community in New York.
