Regional executive officers (REOs) in regions slated to host segments of Carifesta X have decided on activities for the signal events in their communities.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, REOs from regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten met Culture Minister Dr Frank Anthony to plan for the hosting of the events including logistical arrangements such as crowd control mechanisms.
The Carifesta Secretariat said Anna Regina in Region Two will stage the mega concert, Latino night, the youth and indigenous village and cultural exhibition. These events will be held at the Anna Regina Training Centre on August 23. In Region Three, a cultural show and mini-fair will be held at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground on August 24, while a fashion, musical and drum show will be held at Victoria, East Coast Demerara on August 26.
The community will also be hosting a craft exhibition and variety concert organised by President’s Youth Award Republic of Guyana participants. Lindeners too will have a chance to enjoy the performing arts which will be held at the Lichas Hall, Mackenzie High School and Mackenzie Sports Club Ground on August 28. The release said too that activities at the community level will also be staged to complement the Carifesta signal events. Regional officials are expected to submit a final list of their participants by mid-June to facilitate appearances by the visiting performers.
The six regions earmarked to host the festival have been briefed on preparations. This had been done over the past two months when a team from the Secretariat including Anthony and Chief Executive Officer Nigel Dharamlall held an outreach campaign in the regions. The regions were also given an opportunity to see some aspects of the festival when the Carifesta Caravan rolled into their communities.
