Dear Editor,
Yesu Persaud nowadays is very much in the news, and I don’t envy him, for as a true Guyanese he has done a lot of good work for Guyana. The President does owe him an apology, but in political circles we know that when an event occurs such as the current one, there is generally some underlying current. Right now we don’t really know.
Today I picked up a copy of a programme for a function held here in Toronto on May 31 last by the Vedic Cultural Centre, and I noticed an article with the title ‘The Indian Monument Gardens and the Indian Commemoration Trust (Guyana)’ by Dr Yesu Persaud. Could you clarify for me if Yesu Persaud has a doctorate and if so, in what field and from which university? Is the doctorate an honorary doctorate, and doesYesu Persaud use this title in Guyana?
Yours faithfully,
Carl Veecock

In a release dated April 28, 2008, the University of Warwick in the UK announced the names of those who had been awarded honorary degrees this year. Among them was Yesu Persaud, who is an Associate Fellow of the University of Warwick Centre for Caribbean Studies, and who will formally receive his honorary Doctor of Letters degree at a ceremony in July.
