Dear Editor,
That conditions in Guyana are symptomatic of the minds of its political and social leaders is obvious to any observer. The infection began spreading soon after the country gained independence from the British.
Thomas de Quincey (1785-1859) an English author and intellectual explains first how we ended up where we are today and also tells us how we started getting there:
“Once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing; and from robbing he comes next to drinking and Sabbath-breaking and from that to incivility and procrastination.”
Guyana is in dire need of a revival of basic social standards.
Yours faithfully,
Justin deFreitas
