A 25-year-old Belmont, Mahaica farmer was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was shot in his chest during a family argument on Thursday and police have detained the man’s father and brother.
Naresh Mahabal was shot and wounded to his chest in the incident which occurred at about 8pm on Thursday night at Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. A press release from the police Friday said that investigations revealed that Mahabal along with his father and brother were consuming alcohol when an argument ensued during which gunshots were heard.
The police were informed and upon visiting the scene found Mahabal with a gunshot wound to his chest and his wife Bhagmattie Persaud with an injury to her lower right foot. He was taken to the GPH where he was admitted. A live .38 round was recovered at the scene by the police.
His father and brother have been arrested and are in custody assisting with the investigations, the police said.
