The police are still to lay charges in the brutal murder of 15-year-old Sheliza Khan whose battered and nude body was found on the Hope Estate Road, East Coast Demerara earlier this month.
A senior police officer yesterday indicated that they are continuing the investigation into the teenager’s murder and are optimistic that there will be a breakthrough soon. The officer said that all the persons arrested in connection with the murder probe have been released on station bail and will have to make regular visits to the station.
Khan’s body was found early on the morning of June 15 by residents in the Hope area and a post-mortem found that she died from haemorrhage as a result of blunt trauma to her head.
Khan had left her Lancaster, East Coast Demerara home stating that she was going to purchase Chinese food in Mahaica but she and her friend ended up at a popular nightspot in the area. From there it is believed that the young woman left in the company of several persons. The friend had said that she had gone to answer her cellular phone and upon her return the girl was gone.
Police had held the friend in custody for several days and she is one of the persons who have since been placed on bail.
Another person on bail is a man who had reportedly threatened to harm the teen if she did not enter into a relationship with him.
