Georgetown Cricket Club `A’ will look to increase their lead when they square off with Everest Hikers `B’ in a men’s fixture when six more matches in the Guyana Hockey Board warm-up six-a-side hockey tournament will be played this evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The GCC ‘A’ men extended their unbeaten run to join club mates GCC ‘B’ at the top of the men’s competition by handing Old Fort ‘A’ their first loss of the competition while Everest ‘A’ picked up the third spot in matches Tuesday night.
The Everest Hikers ladies upstaged the Spartans of GCC to lead the points table in the ladies competition after action on the second night, Tuesday, at the Sports Hall.
GCC ‘A’ and arch-rivals Old Fort ‘A’ collided in one of their usual high-paced duels which the Bourda side won 3-1.
GCC’s Alan Fernandes sent his team into the lead by converting a Kevin Spencer pass with a powerful flick past Tony Cole in the old Fort goal.
Old Fort equalised just one minute later as Dexter Wyles registered with a diving effort off a blazing counter-attack as the score remained 1-1 at the half.
However, GCC dominated the second session of play with Dwayne Scott and Patrick Edghill netting for the victors.
Everest Hikers ‘A’ exacted revenge for their `B’ team’s loss the previous evening by obliterating the Carib Degenerates by a whopping 24 – 2 defeat in what may have been the longest 40 minutes experienced for most of the Degenerates.

The GCC `B’ team enjoyed another successful evening winning both their matches. They defeated Old Fort ‘B’ by a 6-1 margin through a double by Andrew Xavier and single goals from Leonard George, Errol Toppin and brothers, Stuart and Zack Gonsalves.
Xavier racked up another six goals against the Everest ‘B’ team later in the evening in GCC’s 9-1 rout of Everest with Zack Gonsalves, Leonard George and Errol Toppin adding one apiece.
Diminutive Andrew Stuart managed the lone goal for the Hikers.
The lone ladies match saw the Everest Hikers getting the better of the GCC Spartans by 2-0.
