Cyclists in the country will be back in their saddles this weekend when the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) stages its Annual Cycling Championships for junior, senior and veteran riders.
On Saturday from 07:30hrs junior and juvenile cyclists will pedal off from outside Ocean View International Hotel and proceed to Sparendaam Police Station and back to the Bel Air gas station for the finish.
The following day at 07:30hrs also juniors, seniors and veterans will pedal off from outside the same hotel at Liliendaal, with the veterans turning back at the Belfield car park on the East Coast and returning to Ocean View for the finish.
Meanwhile, the juniors will continue to Mahaica via the Old Road where they will come around to the Mahaica Police Station and proceed back to Ocean View for the finish, while the seniors will travel to De Hoop Village in Mahaica via the Old Road and return to the starting point via the new road.
In the veteran category, Kennard Lovell will be hard pressed to retain his title which he won last year as there will be stiff competition from Linden Blackman, Virgil Jones, Aubrey Greavsande, Shameer Baksh and Compton Persaud.
In the junior category, defending champion Christopher Holder will also be facing a strong challenge from Geron Williams, Christopher Persaud and Enzo Matthews while Alonzo Greaves will have to put in some extra work if he is to finish ahead of John Charles, Warren Mc Kay, Darren Allen, Leer Nunes, Junior Niles, Robin Persaud and Jaikarran Sukhai, among others, to retain his title.
