Sheik Mohammed, Thakur slam half centuries

Half centuries from former national wicket keeper/batsman Sheik Mohammed and Ramesh Thakur highlighted the latest round of matches of the Guyana Softball Association (GSA) Banks DIH-sponsored 15-overs-a side competition which continued last Sunday.

Playing for Floodlights XI at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Mohammed struck an unbeaten 53 as his team reached 96-4 at the end of 15 overs in reply to Dare Devils XI’s score of 111 all out from 13 overs.

Rajendra Boodhoo with 47 and Terry Sookhoo with 19 led Dare Devils XI batting.

Fidel Singh 3-8 and Ramesh Ramsaroop 3-17 were the principal wicket-takers for Floodlights XI.

Apart from Mohammed, no other Floodlights XI batsmen stood up to the Dare Devils bowling attack led by Vijay Mahadeo who bagged 2-15.

Meanwhile, Thakur enjoyed a good day in the field despite the weather when he stroked an accomplished 64 decorated with nine fours and two sixes before returning to claim 3-11 with the ball.

His innings led Players XI to a challenging 155 all out from 14.1 overs and he was supported by an innings of 20 from Ray Richard.

Anil Boodhoo (3-11) and Deokarran Kumar (2-11) were the wicket-takers.

Michael XI in reply was routed for 114 in 13.4 overs with Boodhoo topscoring with 14.

In other results: Hyde Park XI defeated Cornelia Ida Invaders XI by six wickets:

Cornelia Ida Invaders XI batted first and scored 100 all out in 14.2 overs with Khemraj Ramsundar, 15.

Dhaniram Lallram took 3-14 for Hyde Park Sports Club who knocked off their target scoring 103-4 from 9.3 overs. Gibran Mohamed made 33 while Ejaz Mohamed contributed 13.

Haresh Bisoondial grabbed 2-7 from three overs and Riaz Misir 1-24 also from three overs.

Den Amstel Sports Club cruised into the quarter-finals by defeating Fire Crew XI by three wickets:

Fire Crew XI batted  first  and were bowled out for 53 in 14.1 overs. Hakim Khan with 16 was the topscorer with Ray Black taking 3-10 and Morris Henry, 2-5.

In reply, Den Amstel struggled but eventually got to 54-7 in 14.4 overs.

Graham Miggins stroked an unbeaten 20 while Azad Zaman with 2-10 and Premindra Arjune 2-15 tried desperately to bowl their team back into contention.

Boom Blast XI continued their winning ways by defeating Leonora Youths Sports Club by seven wickets:

Leonora Youths Sports Club batted first and were bowled out for 53 in 12.1 overs. Only Rakesh Singh who made 15 offered resistance to the bowling of Hemchand Deonarine 3-3 from and Ramotar Ramroop 2-1.

In reply, Boom Blast XI reached 54-3 from eight overs. Ramotar Ramroop top scored with 23.

After losing to Players XI, Michael XI rebounded in their second match to inflict a 60-run whipping on Skyline XI.  Michael XI bated first and rattled up 157-8 in 15 overs.

Amit Kumar scored 30 while extras contributed 29.

Donald La Channa took 4-30 for Skyline XI who were bundled out for 97 from 12.2 overs. Vishal Singh scored 19.

Dhanraj Pooran took 2-20 bowling for Michael XI.

La Grange All Youths XI defeated Rapid Fire XI by 26 runs:

La Grange All Youths XI took first strike and scored 148-9 from 15 overs. Abid Hanif made 37 and Danny Persaud 27.

Avinash Singh 3-21 and Nasir Mohamed 3-33 led the bowling for Rapid Fire XI who fell short in their reply and were bowled out for 112 in 14.5 overs. Narendra Pooran made 17 while Shoab Mohamed contributed 15.

Sarta Narine took 3-13 bowling for La Grange All Youths XI.

La Grange All Youths gained a walkover from Good Fortuin All Star XI in their second match, while rain interrupted the match between Regal XI and Untouchables with the former being 49-3 from 6.4 overs when heavy showers prevented any play between Floodlight XI and Untouchables.
