A 40-year-old man who uttered a forged Trinidad and Tobago passport to a Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri security officer was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Hamant Sewkaran of No. 33 Village, Berbice pleaded not guilty to charges of uttering a forged document and possession of a document suspected to be unlawfully obtained.
It is alleged that on Wednesday Sewkaran uttered a forged Trinidad and Tobago passport in the name of another man to CJIA security and had in his possession the same passport which is suspected to have been obtained unlawfully.
Sewkaran’s attorney told the court that his client was tricked and had no idea that the document was anything other than genuine.
The prosecution promptly replied by asking: “How can you be tricked into using a document which has another name and date of birth?”
The accused was remanded to prison and the matter will continue on July 4.
