Well known local comedians Henry Rodney and Kirk Jardine will make guest appearances as a preview to Dave Martins when he tells it like it is in his show titled ‘Lemme Tell You’ at the Theatre Guild Playhouse next week.
While Dave is perhaps best known for story-telling through his music, GEMS Theatre Productions head Gem Madhoo-Nascimento assures Guyanese that that will love his ‘other side’—a one-man, stand-up comedy routine.
Dave Martins is one of Guyana’s cultural icons founder and creator of the famous Tradewinds Band, known throughout the length and breadth of Guyana, the Caribbean, Canada and the US.
However, few locals knew as Dave told a press conference on Thursday at the NCN studios, that he has been performing his stand-up routine for about seven years. He has recently performed in Florida and Barbados and at the latter venue, teamed up with Gabby for some musical items. In addition to humour, he will accompany himself on guitar for musical items.
Supporting acts will come from Henry Rodney, Kirk Jardine and newcomer Tiffany Hytmiah, who will be doing a story-telling piece ‘Guyana tourist’ for which she won an award during the Inter Secondary School Drama competition a few weeks ago.
The shows are billed to start at 20:00 hrs nightly and tickets are $3,000 (auditorium) and $2,500 (Balcony) and are available at the Oasis Café in Carmichael Street, Nigel’s Supermarket and The Water Store in Campbell Avenue and Middleton St.
Madhoo-Nascimento said it will be an evening of good entertainment for the entire family. Security will be provided for vehicles.
