A female police officer who reportedly walked out of an abusive relationship some time ago was attacked by her former partner at New Amsterdam yesterday.
According to reports, the man had been stalking her and waited for an opportunity to attack. She had just exited a taxi when he approached her and an argument ensued. Based on reports, he pulled out a knife and stabbed her in the head before fleeing.
Police at New Amsterdam were reluctant to speak on the incident when contacted yesterday but sources gave the officer’s name as Corporal Hooper. One officer told this newspaper that the incident was nothing big and, “just something minor between the woman and the man”.
Stabroek News understands that Corporal Hooper had left home in the company of a brother to do some shopping when they noticed the man following them. They walked to the police station and made a report. Subsequently, the officer’s brother put her into a taxi and they parted.
She exited the taxi at Pitt Street and was confronted by the man, whom sources said, appeared to have been following her the whole time. The two were seen arguing on the road but within minutes the man attacked. He pulled a knife and stabbed her in the head before fleeing.
According to reports, the officer was bleeding profusely and was rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital where she was admitted. The police are investigating.
