The Guyana Police Force on Sunday clarified that it was looking for two watchmen for information in relation to the Lindo Creek murders and not two members of the Joint Services.
In a statement, the police referred to the Sunday Stabroek June 30 editorial which said that Commissioner of Police Henry Greene had told the media that the police were looking for two soldiers who were at the UNAMCO checkpoint.
“The Guyana Police Force wishes to clarify that at no time did the Commissioner of Police say that the security forces were looking for two members of the Joint Services or two soldiers who were at the UNAMCO checkpoint. What the Commissioner said was that we were looking for two watchmen who worked at the UNAMCO checkpoint”. In response to another question about why it had been difficult to locate the two watchmen the police noted that Greene stated that the two men were on `time off’.
