Camex Restaurants Incorp-orated, owners of Church’s Restaurant chain, yesterday presented to president of the Flying Ace Cycle Club in Berbice, Randolph Roberts a cheque for $94,000 as sponsorship for the club’s upcoming Caricom Day 40-mile cycle road race.
The race which will be an annual event starts at 08:30 hrs on Sunday, July 6th in front of Church’s Restaurant at Rosignol, the sixth in Guyana, and will proceed to the second toll gate in Adventure and back to Rosignal for the finish.
The first six finishers in the open category will receive prizes while the first 12-14 rider along with the first five 9-12 years old BMX rider will also be awarded prizes. There will also be six prime prizes up for grabs during the course of the race.
Speaking on behalf of Church’s Restaurant, director Gregory De Gaans stated that he was delighted to be making this contribution to the sport of cycling.
“We are pleased to be associating ourselves with cycling, having been involved with football, cricket and basketball before. Church’s is committed to Guyana and Guyanese in the whole and in whatever way we can be of assistance to them, we will.”
Roberts thanked the sponsors for their donation and informed those gathered that his charge and national junior road race champion Neil Reece, would be using the race as a warm-up prior to defending his Junior Caribbean Gold Cup title he had won last year in Trinidad.
