Neal and Massy is helping the Support Group for Deaf Persons (SGDP) in its public awareness campaign for Deaf Awareness Week slated to be held in September.
According to a press release, Neal and Massy Guyana Group CEO Deo Persaud on Friday handed over 150 jerseys to the group and extended an offer of more assistance. Persaud said his company was committed to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged groups and it commended the SGDP for working to improve the lives of physically challenged persons. He said too his company was observing its 40th anniversary and to celebrate it planned to contribute to several philanthropic ventures.
Leon Walcott, Director at SGDP, said Neal and Massy was the first large company to support its work and he was grateful for the donation.
He said the SGDP works to ensure that deaf persons have a place in society and that they are able to access the same opportunities; particularly education services from nursery to university, that are available to able-bodied persons. The activities for the awareness week set for September 21-28 include workshops, lectures, television programmes and marches. It is being held under the theme ‘See my Hands.’
The release said too the SGDP falls under the purview of the Guyana Community Based Rehabilitation Programme which supports physically challenged persons.
