Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee yesterday sounded a stern warning to entertainment promoters not to bring in any “smutty or dutty” songsters to Guyana before or during Carifesta which is to be held in August.
This announcement was made during a press conference in the Ministry’s boardroom.
Reading from a prepared statement, Rohee stressed that the Ministry will be keeping a close watch on all the artistes that will be invited.
“Promoters are hereby warned”, he said.
This latest warning comes a few months after Jamaican singers Rodney `Bounty Killa’ Price and David Brooks called `Movado’ were banned from performing in Guyana because of security concerns.
The bans which were announced by the Minister back in April were sparked by a Wildfire Productions Show at which Price who was the main artist bashed gays and glorified guns.
Rohee had told the media that his ministry had exercised a lot of patience with entertainment organizers over the type of shows that they hold here. He had added that authorities had sat down with some organizers to draft a set of conditions by which shows would be guided but unfortunately those conditions had not been upheld.
As such, Rohee had indicated that the ministry will be blacklisting Bounty Killer and Movado. Movado was labelled a security risk by the minister.
Both singers are known around the Caribbean and in Europe for their controversial lyrics and as such several countries have opted to ban them.
