A 27-year-old man who allegedly pretended to be a doctor and a police officer to get credit from two taxi drivers was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Kwesi Robinson of 813 Paradise Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to charges of impersonating a person from the Ministry of Health and another from the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
It is alleged that on June 15 Robinson pretended to Odingo Wilson that he was a doctor employed by the ministry and on June 24 he pretended to Ricardo Nageer that he was a member of the GPF attached to the Office of the President.
In his defence, Robinson told the court that he doesn’t know where the charges originate from. He admitted that he knew the men and that he owed them both taxis fares.
Meanwhile, Wilson told the court that on the day in question the accused introduced himself as Dr Kendell and claimed that he was attached to the ministry. He then hired him to go to the Highway and promised to pay him the following day. However, Wilson said to date he is yet to receive payment.
The second virtual complainant, Nageer, told a similar story. He said Robinson introduced himself as a member of the GPF and hired him to take him to his house. Nageer said that the accused left the vehicle to go into the house to get the fare and he subsequently disappeared.
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that other charges are likely to be brought again Robinson.
Robinson was ordered to appear in court on July 14.
