Thirty-nine students from 15 high and secondary schools within the city on Monday started a one-month work study attachment at the Guyana Police Force.
In a press release the police said students were selected from St Joseph High, Central High, Christ Church Secondary, North Georgetown Secondary, Dolphin Secondary and other schools. It said too to date this is the largest group of students it has accommodated.
During the programme the students will be attached to various sections of the Force including at the headquarters, immigration, the Criminal Investigation Department, the Felix Austin Police College, the general office, Quartermasters stores, the Commissioner’s Office, force control, the construction section and the Band Room. They are expected to take part in exercises that will inform them of the role of the different departments.
According to the release the programme has been planned in collaboration with the education ministry. It aims to expose students to the world of work as their secondary level of education nears completion. A second group of students are expected to take part in a similar exercise from August 4 to September 5.
