Dear Editor,
Why is there no recycling plant for plastic bottles in Guyana? Recycling certainly is the best way to tackle the problems of solid waste management. Throughout Guyana there is a problem with littering. A major part of that garbage comprises plastic bottles. Not only is this unsightly, but it also can contribute to flooding when these bottles get into the waterways. Today, most soft drinks come in plastic bottles. The price for a bottle of water is about $140. I am quite sure that the price for the water is not as much as the cost for the bottle. When persons finish drinking, they simply discard the bottle, which may pollute our country, or the bottle gets burned at a dumpsite (not good for the atmosphere).
Recycling the bottles certainly will save us money, and at the same time help to reduce the amount of garbage we see wherever we look. Furthermore, this venture can also be a source of employment for some.
Yours faithfully,
