Corentyne District defeated New Amsterdam/Canje District by 71 runs to take the last available semi-final berth of the inter-district leg of the Republic Bank Ltd. Right Start National Secondary Schools’ under-15 limited overs cricket competition.
After being restricted to a modest 130-9 off their allotted 40 overs at the Port Mourant ground, Corentyne District stormed back to dismiss New Amsterdam/Canje for a paltry 59 runs.
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Corentyne District saw openers Dominique Rickie and Devendra Potayya putting on 29 before they slipped to 49-3.
It took small partnerships of 21 for the fourth wicket between Veeapen Permaul (14) and Sharmindra Hardyal (10) and 25 for the seventh wicket between Andy Mohan (14) and Loyddel Lewis together with 34 extras to boost the team’s score to its eventual 134-9.
Bowling for New Amsterdam/Canje off-spinners Kevin Ramdeen took 3-26 and Flynn Reid 2-26.
New Amsterdam /Canje were also off to a poor start slipping to 27-3.
They never recovered slipping to 37-5 and 55-7 before being all out for 59 in 21 overs.
Bowling for Corentyne District, right arm leg-spinners Shawn Perreira and Sasenarine Ernest each captured two wickets for four runs while off-spinner Permaul and pacer Lewis bagged two wickets for five and 14 runs respectively.
Corentyne District joins East Coast and East Bank Demerara and Essequibo Islands in the semi-finals. The final will be played tomorrow at the National Stadium at Providence ground.
