The Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC) has announced that it will be conducting ‘Operation Transom’- a corrective maintenance exercise – on its eighth retractor span, which will certain necessitate traffic restrictions.
According to a press release from the DHBC, the exercise will commence on July 19 and last until July 22. Work will be conducted from 5:30 am to 6 pm each day. During this time, vehicular traffic will be restricted to cars, minibuses and other vehicles no heavier than five tonnes.
At the completion of each day’s activity at 6 pm, the weight limit shall be set at 21 tonnes throughout the night until 5.30 am the next day.
This month marks 30 years since the commissioning of the floating bridge.
