The National Youth Parliament is accepting applications for sessions set to be held on September 29 and 30.
According to a press release from the Secretariat this year greater emphasis is being placed on attracting youth from a wider geographic area through outreaches into specific regions.
Any youth between the ages of 15 and 30 years can apply to become a youth parliamentarian by writing an essay of not more than 1000 words on the topic ‘The role of youths in building a progressive society in a rapidly developing country.’
Applicants must write their name, address, telephone number or email address at the top left hand corner of the essay and submit same to the NYP Secretariat, PO box 12368, Georgetown or to lot 122 Oronoque Street, Georgetown. Entries may also be sent to email address guydaguyana@yahoo.com. Entries must reach the Secretariat before July 18.
The Secretariat said successful applicants will be selected for screening at which they will be required to do an oral presentation. They will also be required to attend all workshops, two weeks of intense training and post-sitting programmes. For more information interested persons are advised to call telephone number 225-8892.
The release said the Youth Parliament is a subsidiary-group of the Guyana Youth Development Association “which is dedicated to the continuity and improvement of this forum as an important tool for the development of young people in Guyana.” The sessions will be hosted at the International Conference Centre.
