The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) will join with Caricom in its hosting of Caribbean Wellness Day on September 13.
In a press release the GPSU said it is concerned about the negative impact economic circumstances have had on its members and shares Caricom’s concerns about the region’s health. It said Caricom’s initiative reflects its concerns about the physical, economic and social burden caused by lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, obesity, heart disease and cancer.
The GPSU said it has invited proposals from its members in order to emphasize the importance and seriousness of good health and address the risks inherent in the environment: home and work and eating habits.
The GPSU said it has also informed the health, public service and human services ministers of its interest and intention to observe the occasion.
