President Bharrat Jagdeo has committed $2M to ACDA for this year’s Emancipation Day celebrations.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said Jagdeo on Thursday made this commitment to the African Cultural Development Association (ACDA) which usually organises the major national celebrations in the National Park. Jagdeo spoke to ACDA Administrator Stanley Cooke at a meeting held at the Office of the President.
According to GINA the President also said assistance would be given to the Bagotville Cultural Group on the West Bank Demerara which plans to host “rich African cultural activities.”
The group says its roster includes dances, songs, a church service, concert and symposium at the Bagotville Community Centre.
It also intends to host the main Libation ceremony at midnight on July 31.
Celebrations in the community are set to start on July 28.
