Fiona McPherson, whose body was found underneath her bed last Monday, died as a result of asphyxiation due to compression of the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head, according to a police release.
The release said that a post-mortem examination was performed yesterday by pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh.
According to the police the woman’s husband, who is the suspect in the matter, remains in custody.
McPherson, of Supply, East Bank Demerara was allegedly killed in a fit of rage by her husband who then hid her body underneath their bed.
He then fled to his hometown of Adelphi, Canje in Berbice where he was convinced by relatives to give himself up to police.
He turned up at the Reliance Police Station where he reportedly confessed to the crime.
The lifeless body of McPherson was discovered lying under a bed in her Lot 12 Supply home with her hands bound behind the back and a vest around her neck.
Police said the discovery was made around 8 am on Monday.
The woman’s uncle Monty Fraser had told Stabroek News that he left the couple alone around noon on Sunday and when he returned around 2 pm, a padlock was on the door indicating that they were out. All seemed well with the couple when he left.
It was reported to this newspaper that the couple, who had been married for four years, quarrelled frequently. McPherson was scheduled to travel to Barbados where she had managed to secure a job, a move that apparently did not please her husband.
