Dear Editor,
At present the New Amsterdam Town Council only has seven serving members and does not have a quorum to carry on statutory meetings, yet still they are doing so. The allotted fifteen-member council has boiled down to just seven members including the Mayor. An eighth member is at present sick and has been absent from meetings for over six months now. So according to the by-laws she is no longer a councillor. There is no clause which makes provision for sick leave, so one half of the 15-member council is off. How can they still hold meetings and make statutory decisions?
Yours faithfully,
Carlyn Bynoe
