Bosai Minerals Guyana Inc recruited its first batch of apprentices on Monday.
The batch comprised 31 senior students drawn from the Linden Technical Institute and from secondary schools within the Linden community who would have completed their CXC examinations.
Initially the group will undergo a three-month attachment while awaiting their results from the Guyana technical examination. They will then be placed in areas of their particular skills and trade. The apprenticeship scheme is the result of discussions held between the company and the board of industrial training for its reintroduction. The programme had been closed for several years.
It is hoped that this new partnership with the Institute will ensure an increase in its enrollment and heighten the competition among students hoping to be recruited. The programme is expected to be held annually in order to meet the human resources needs of the company in keeping with its strategic human resources plan.
The apprentices would be trained in the trades of Electrical, Mechanical, Fitting and Machining, Welding and Fabricating, Information Technology and Building and Construction for a period of two years. Upon successful completion of the programme the apprentices are expected to be drafted into the workforce.
