Thieves broke into the Link Store, located on Mandela Avenue sometime on Thursday night carting away computers and accessories worth $1.5M.
Proprietor, Mikhail Rodrigues told Stabroek News that five computers, a printer and four c-point machines were carted away by the thieves. The Link Store is an internet café and also hooks up c-point vendors and Rodrigues said that the items were worth about $1.5M.
He related that he went into the store around 8:30 yesterday morning and saw two locks missing from the grill protecting the glass door and one side of the door open. Upon entering, he saw the items were gone. “They just rip up everything and gone with it”, he stated. Rodrigues said that no one in the neighbourhood could tell him anything regarding the incident. He reported the matter to the Ruimveldt police station and up to yesterday afternoon was awaiting the lawmen to arrive to dust for fingerprints.
He noted that one of the c-point machines was recovered in an alleyway at the side of the building, which leads into Alexander village. He recalled that it had only been six months since the café was opened and said that he was very upset because he along with his wife had worked hard to get where they are today. The businessman said that one only really felt the pressure when it happened to them personally.
“It’s very hard”, he asserted noting that his wife had cried upon hearing the news. He said that he hoped the items would be recovered and the persons, who committed the deed, captured.
