Webster untouchable after first round
Learie Webster jumped out ahead of the competition and into the lead in the Oasis Café Mega Chess Tournament which was held at the Oasis Too Café on South Road.
Webster emerged from six rounds of competition with the maximum six points to his name to remain unbeaten while giving each opponent he faced a tour of the loser column.
Webster is at the top of the list of 15 players who advanced to the quarter final round of the tournament which is scheduled to begin on Friday at 4:30pm at the Oasis Café on Carmichael Street.
The other players who have advanced to the quarter final round are Errol Tiwari with five points, Shiv Nandalall four and one half points, Roy Sharma on four points, Everton London and Taffin Khan three and a half points, Andre Griffith, Neil Khan, Robert Arjoon, Michael Perreira and Khalid Gajraj on three points, Ivan Duncan, Sean Richmond and Ronald Roberts on two and one half points and Keelun Booker and Ryan Singh on two points.
The 16 players will be divided in four groups: Group A: Webster, N. Khan, Arjoon, and Singh; Group B: Tiwari, Griffith, Perreira and Booker; Group C: Nandalall, T. Khan, Gajraj and Roberts and Group D: Sharma, London, Duncan and Richmond.
The players who will be participating in the quarter final round are asked to assemble at 4pm sharp at the Oasis Café.
