– Regal XI turn tables
Dare Devils XI thrashed Eccles Sports Club XI and Tradesmen XI in their first and third matches but Regal XI gave them a dose of their own medicine in their second match at the National Insurance Scheme ground when the Banks DIH 15-Overs Softball Tournament continued.
With eleven scheduled matches on the cards, there were more victories, defeats and walkovers following the conclusion of matches last Sunday.
Eccles Sports Club XI batted first and made 131 all out in 14.5 overs then Dare Devils XI had a successful chase getting to 132-7 in 10.3 overs with Devanand Budram contributing a solitary 39. At noon the Regal XI decided to bat first and reversed Dare Devils XI’s first match decision after they scored at over eleven runs per over in the early part to play, eventually amassing 212-4 in 15 overs as Lakeram Roopnarine led the way with an entertaining 71 with solid support from Mahendra Arjune (56) and Lance Adams (43). Mahendra Chunilall’s 3-8 from three overs made the chase a hard task for the Dare Devils XI as they could only get to 105 all out in 12.5 overs.
Dare Devils XI returned in their third match to defeat Tradesmen XI by a comfortable margin of 74 runs – Dare Devils won the toss and elected to bat scoring a challenging 160-8 in 15 overs built on a terrific half century from Devanand Harricharran (68) while Tradesmen XI were bundled out for 86 in 9.2 overs in their reply.
Over at the Den Amstel ground the Goed Fortuin All Star XI/Cornelia Ida Invaders XI encounter got underway at 10:00 am with Cornelia Ida Invaders winning the toss. They batted and struggled to 73 all out in 10 overs with Kenroy Persaud (22) top scoring as Shazim Hussain bagged 3-4 from three overs.
Goed Fortuin All Stars XI in reply made 74-5 in nine overs – Ralph Misir contributed 16 while Vikash Dhaniram took 2-14 from three overs for Cornelia Ida.
There were walkover victories for Goed Fortuin All Star XI and Den Amstel at noon and 2:00pm as their opponents Rapid Fire XI failed to show as scheduled.
Country Side XI made light work of Michael XI after they won the toss and sent in the opposition to bat, dismissing them for 61 in 13.4 overs at the Providence ground. Jainarine Khemraj top scored for his team with 20 as Jajdesh Deosarran tore through the batting line up to take 4-9 from three overs then Country Side replied and reached 62-1 in 6.5 overs with Jagdesh Deosarran leading the way with an unbeaten 33.
It was a stroll in the park for Players XI and Skyline XI as they recorded walkover victories after Industry Front XI absented themselves from the field of play.
Country Side XI in their second match of the day continued their winning ways by defeating the previously unbeaten La Jalousie Estate XI by 9 wickets.
La Jalousie won the toss, batted and crawled to 84 in 14.2 overs with major support by Gobin Hansraj (25) as Roy Seebarran got 3-7 from three overs. Country Side in reply got to 86 led by Krishna Deosarran with an unbeaten 35 while they lost one wicket in the 6.5 overs they batted.
La Jalousie Estate XI redeemed themselves in their second match by defeating Players XI by 31 runs. La Jalousie Estate XI spearheaded by a brilliant half century from Doodnauth Dhansraj (53) helped them to a total of 151-8 in 15 overs.
Players XI got off to a good start being 48-0 after eight overs but once the opening batsmen were removed the team crumbled to 120 in 13.2 overs. Troy Kedum top scored with 46 and Bisham Dhanraj (3-6) and Pariag Sookhoo (2-28) were the most successful bowlers for La Jalousie.
