The body of a 22-year-old sugar worker was found in a canal at the Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara estate around midmorning yesterday, shortly after he was discovered missing.
According to source from the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO), the man, Dargonauth was supposed to be spraying agrochemicals at the estate, but on checking his immediate supervisor could not locate him. A search was carried out directly after the man was discovered missing.
His spray can was found on a dam at the estate, and his hat was seen floating in the canal. Upon venturing into the water, the man’s colleagues found his lifeless body.
The police were informed and the body was taken to the mortuary. GUYSUCO has launched a full internal investigation into the matter for which a report will be issued soon.
