Bandits struck at the Shell Service Station on Vlissengen Road last night, robbing the two pump attendants of an undisclosed amount of money and as they escaped, fired shots at a vehicle that pursued them.
The service station quickly shut its doors after the robbery which occurred at about 7:40 pm. An employee told Stabroek News that the two robbers walked up to where the pump attendants were and ordered them to hand over everything. One of the attendants attempted to run but was told that if he did he would be shot.
In an ordeal that lasted around a minute, the bandits, only one of whom apparently had a gun, relieved the attendants of the undisclosed sum of money and escaped on foot in the direction of Eping Avenue. A customer attempted to follow them in his vehicle but was fired upon and abandoned the chase. It was not clear how many shots were fired. No one was injured.
When Stabroek News visited the service station, the visibly-shaken employees were quickly closing off and customers were told that the station was closed. A few minutes later there were reports that a couple walking on New Garden Street had been robbed by two men fitting the description of the duo that had just robbed the service station.
