The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) on Thursday presented donations to four families whose homes were destroyed by fire.
Giddings, who recently lost his home and son, told Stabroek News that he is still traumatized because everything he worked for went up in flames in just a few minutes. The man said, however, “I have faith and breath and by God’s will I will prosper again. But it will be hard since I don’t have my son with me this time around.” His son died in the fire. Giddings also said that he is very thankful to the GRC for assisting him.
Another beneficiary, Bibi Azeema Bacchus Baksh, tearfully related that her home was also recently burnt and she is very confused as to what should be her next move. The woman said that since she bought her home, she has been experiencing electrical problems with the wire that was attached to her house. She said she was not at home when the fire occurred but was informed by her son that on the day of the fire, the wire sparked and the fire caught onto her curtains and subsequently engulfed her entire home. Baksh said ever since she has been trying to get GPL’s attention but to this date her efforts have been futile. The woman, like the other beneficiaries, is grateful to the GRC for their support.
