Dear Editor,
It is always distressing to see pedestrians cross the road when the pedestrian light in front of them is unmistakably displaying red. Sadder, is the reality that many of the said individuals are adults, some of whom are parents and guardians.
When our youths need role models and persons to emulate, to whom should they look?
The adults in society should be the examples. Sadly, many forget that being an example is a responsibility that includes every facet of life.
Many parents and guardians when walking with young children, break the law by crossing the road when the pedestrian light is clearly showing red.
Such lawlessness not only sets a bad example for the future generation of this country, but puts their lives and the lives of the children at risk.
How will these children respond to, or view law and order – not just in this specific case but generally? If they see their parents and guardians showing complete disregard for the rules of the land, they too are likely to display similar misconduct.
I urge all parents and guardians to be patient at stop lights, to set the right example for our youths. National change will be the sum total of individual change.
Yours faithfully,
