I refer to your letter of July 10 by Vishnu Bisram titled: ‘Government should take up offer from expatriate Guyanese with expertise in proppants used in oil drilling.’
This letter contained a serious error which must be urgently corrected.
The subject of the letter, Mr Newton Liu, did not make any offer to the Government of Guyana to help with oil drilling. Further, Mr Liu is not looking for work. Since Mr Liu left the shores of Guyana in early 1980s, he has not met or talked with any official or representative of the Guyana government and therefore could not possibly have made any kind of offer to share his expertise in oil drilling with the government. It should also be said that the Government of Guyana is not soliciting offers from qualified Guyanese to work in oil drilling.
Mr Bisram ended his letter with the sentence: “The Government of Guyana should take up his offer.”
I can state categorically that Mr Liu has not offered to share his services with the Guyana government, and therefore there is no offer for it to consider or accept.
It appears I am the source of the information regarding Mr Liu. I met Mr Liu in Houston in April. I discussed Mr Liu with Mr Vishnu Bisram. I thought Mr Liu is an outstanding Guyanese who has developed a rare expertise in oil drilling and suggested that Mr Bisram use his weekly column to profile a successful Guyanese. I thought Mr Liu is an excellent role model for the Guyanese community here in Queens, NY.
