Dear Editor,
The preservation of national treasures plays a very important role within any country’s tourism sector, and if we can’t preserve our rich history, we might as well just take ourselves off the international market as a tourist destination.
I just read in the Guyana Times a few days ago (‘El House…’ 27.7.08) about a treasure in Berbice – an old house – which is to be demolished by the current owner, and I really believe that it would be a disaster if that happened.
I expect that the Berbice Chamber of Commerce would have an input into persuading the owner against carrying out the demolition of one of Guyana’s treasures and the tourism agencies or any related agency should now take a step and make some sort of arrangement to preserve ‘El House.’
Yours faithfully,
T. Pemberton
