The 35-year-old Cottage, Mahaicony labourer who was chopped on his head by his neighbour who later hanged himself, succumbed to his injuries around 5 pm on Monday afternoon while still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Hospital.
Deopaul Manie never regained consciousness since July 27 when he was admitted, underwent surgery and was attached to a life support machine in the ICU. He was being given oxygen and saline and was being fed through a tube.
Manie was chopped on his head by his neighbour Kenrick Chisholm who was later found hanging from a length of rope at his house. A police press release had said that Manie, his reputed wife Norawattie Khedoo and Chisholm were all consuming alcohol at Manie’s house. It is alleged that Chisholm left the house and later assaulted a female relative of the couple.
He was later confronted by the couple and chopped Manie on the head and Khedoo on the left foot. Manie leaves to mourn his reputed wife and three children.
