Dear Editor,
With reference to the just finished PPP Congress, I think it is important that matters which can undermine the party be dealt with early. Look at the case of Cde Ralph Ramkarran who polled 22nd place. Were certain delegates told not to vote for particular candidates, including Mr Ramkarran? Who was in charge of scrutinising the voting delegates as head of the credentials committee? Who was in charge of the elections process until voting? Was any member of staff of a ministry involved in the vote-counting process? Had anyone who had some responsibility for counting been earlier rejected as a congress delegate by his party group because he had not attended a group meeting for the past four years, but through his position in charge of voting delegates was able to be a delegate?
Mr Editor, I recognize that these Congress elections had nothing to do with 2011, but certainly the organized blow inflicted on Mr Ramkarran is intended to dash his hopes. Sadly, any suspicions about the process can only lead to greater distress for the rank and file and uneasiness in the leadership.
I think Mr Ramkarran has the calibre to be Guyana’s next President and would urge him not to succumb to this dislocation.
Yours faithfully,
J Singh
