The Guyana Amateur Swim-ming Association (GASA) is in its final stage of preparation for the 2008 Goodwill Swimming Championship which is to be held at the Castellani Pool from August 15-17.
According to GASA Secretary Karen Pilgrim, the management and preparatory aspects of the meet are on schedule but they are still awaiting sponsors who had previously made commitments to deliver at this crucial time.
“The meet management is on stream and most if not all of the systems are already in place. At this point we are only waiting on a few sponsors who had made commitments to us [GASA] earlier to deliver on their promises at this time because we still haven’t got enough sponsorship,” she said.
Pilgrim said that one of GASA’s approaches for soliciting funds was to ask persons to sponsor individual events and they are still more events to be sponsored. She also said that all sponsors will be given receipts.
The countries that will be participating in the event are Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and host Guyana.
According to Pilgrim, the Trinidad and Tobago delegation is expected to arrive next Wednesday while Suriname’s team is expected the following day.
The Barbados team, however, is travelling on different flights and will be arriving over the course of the next eight days, according to Pilgrim.
