The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) will be hosting a five-day coaching programme beginning tomorrow which will be conducted by Argentinea National Coach and Coaching Instruc-tor of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Alejandra Gabaglio, according to a release from GTTA.
A notification letter issued to local coaches by General Secretary of the GTTA Godfrey Munroe stated that Gabaglio will be conducting an ITTF and Para Table Tennis PTT level one coaching programme at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from tomorrow until next Wednesday.
Munroe said in the release that the course is a precursor to the ITTF level two and level three stages which is the highest achievable level of coaching certification.
He also said that the course will see participants from Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba and Guyana and is part of the special grant from the ITTF Latin American Table Tennis Union.
“These initiatives are keeping with the association’s development goals of building capacity for sustainability of its initiatives, since we believe that the creation of a nucleus of coaches can ultimately lead to a greater nucleus of players which will improve the competitiveness of the sport, club, and the school structure and assist our aims of decentralizing of the sport,” he said.
The duration of the course is 30 hours and participants will be required to complete another 30 hours of practical coaching, with a minimum of five hours with different athletes, according to the course structure provided by the GTTA.
According to the information in the course structure, participants must complete the course with full attendance and also score satisfactorily in their practical presentation in order to be eligible for the ITTF level one certificate.
