The 7th annual East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) cricket academy will get underway from tomorrow under the theme “Cricket and Healthy Lifestyle” for a two-week period at the Lusignan Community Centre (LCC) ground.
According to a press release, topics expected to be covered during this period will include Laws of Cricket, Umpiring, Sportsmanship, History of West Indies Cricket, Coaching, Fitness, Drugs and Sports, Hygiene, Exercise, Leisure and Recreation, Discipline and Commitment in Sports, Food and Nutrition, Careers Available in Cricket, Importance of Balancing Education and Sports, Discrimination in Sports, Healthy Lifestyle, Social Etiquette, Leadership, Scoring and Playing Cricket.
Lecturers include president of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Chetram Singh, attorney-at-Law and president of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Anil Nandalall, vice president of the GCB and president of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) Alvin Johnson and long-serving umpire Daverteeth Anandjeet, amongs others.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr. Frank Anthony is expected to deliver the feature address and declare the academy open. The academy is catering for both male and female cricketers between the ages of 12 and 16 years old respectively.
Registration will be done today at the LCC between 10:00hrs and 11:30hrs.
