Three players, named by the Guyana Lawn Tennis Associ-ation to represent Guyana at the International Tennis Federation’s 13 and under junior development tournament in Antigua will depart Guyana today.
Seanden David-Longe, Krystal Sukra and Daniel Lopes are the players named and they will be accompanied by secretary of the GLTA Shelly Daly Ramdyhan who will serve as manager/coach.
According to Daly-Ramdyhan, the tournament is being held from tomorrow to August 16.
Lopes and Sukra will make their debuts at the tournament while David-Longe who is the current national under-14 boys champion will be making his second straight appearance at the tournament.
David-Longe, who did not fare so well last year said:“This year I am more confident because my game has improved and I hope to play better than I did last year. I hope that I get a better space in the tournament this year and I hope that my game will be more consistent.”
Daly-Ramdyhan said that the competition level of the tournament was extremely high due to the fact that it is an ITF-sanctioned event and said that many ITF ranked players will participate.
She also said that the tournament allows young players to be exposed to scouts as well as to go on the ITF junior Tour, a privilege extended to all the winners.
